The barge and towing industry offers numerous advantages over other jobs:

    * A versatile skilled profession that doesn't require a college degree.
    * A job with a future. * Competitive wages and benefits.
    * The chance to learn a trade.
    * An alternative to college or 9-to-5 jobs.

PLUS-

  • Job security! Settoon Towing is committed to retaining its employees, even in tough economic times. Settoon Towing has made it a goal; “NO LAY-OFFS!”, and we strive to continue this commitment.
  • Extended time off. After each completed work schedule on board the towboat, you have several days off at a stretch, totaling as much as four months a year of time off.
  • Flexibility to live where you want. Towboat crews often live several hundred miles from the waterways on which they work. This flexibility means you can live near your family and friends and still be able to meet the boat when it's time to head back to the job.
  • The opportunity for a stable, well-paid career with unlimited potential to move up in a dynamic industry that stresses a safe, productive, and drug-free environment.
  • The ability to save on your expenses! Meals, groceries and board are a paid benefit while you are working.

The inland barge and towing industry is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week business. When on the job, the crew-members of a towboat work, eat and sleep on board their vessel for several days or even weeks at a time. The work can be hard and challenging, but it's also rewarding.

If you're ambitious and hardworking, a job on board a towboat offers outstanding opportunities for advancement in the maritime industry.

As a newcomer to the industry, you will begin as a deckhand where you can take advantage of our training programs. Settoon Towing, LLC will provide the necessary training for you to become a licensed tankerman, which will start to increase your earning capacity. When qualifications are met, you can further your training to become a licensed mariner in as little as 36 months. Tuition assistance programs are available to help you advance in your new career!
